Frequently Asked Questions about the Sansevieria Film FestivalWhen can I send entries? Entries can be sent year-round. Is there an entry fee? No. We do not charge an entry fee because we believe filmmakers should have at least one venue to screen their work at minimal cost. When is the film festival? The film festival is generally held in late October to early November every year. This year there will be several screening dates, the first of which is November 1, at the University of Toledo. Do you screen animated works? Sure. In fact, we can always use a few more. Why is a separate entry form required for each entry? This helps us with publishing the information in the film festival program, should your entry be accepted, and with expediting the screening process. I just shot this darling home movie of my 6-year-old's birthday party. Is this an appropriate film festival entry? Probably not. There is a clear difference between digital video projects that are suitable for film festivals, and "home movies" that are more suitable for AFV. However, there are exceptions to the rule. Certainly we would not refuse to screen narrative, documentary, or experimental works of artistic value that look like "home movies." But we are pretty good at telling the difference. How should I submit entries? Entries should be submitted on a DVD, preferably encoded for NTSC, and for either region 0 or region 1. We do not have the ability to screen PAL or SECAM at this time. We also accept submissions on VHS. |
