BOARD OF
EDUCATION
Contrary to popular belief, corporal punishment
is still allowed in schools in 21
of the 50 states in
the USA. It was also legal in most Canadian
provinces until 2004, and remains legal in many countries around the
world today.
This documentary will look at everything
from parental spanking and school corporal punishment, as
well as explore
how select individuals interviewed came to become anti-spanking or
pro-spanking. It will also debunk come of the
commonly held myths about spanking and corporal punishment from
both sides.

FACTS
Every state except Minnesota still has
laws expressly permitting spanking and other forms of corporal
punishment. And even Minnesota has no laws expressly
banning its use.In 9 of the 22 states where school paddling is
still allowed, educators are protected from liability for any
injuries sustained by the child, even if the parent requested
that corporal punishment not be used.
Some people claim the Bible supports
corporal punishment, yet the Reverend Martin Luther King Jr.
did not believe in spanking. (By the way, none of his kids
grew up to be murderers.) He never spanked any of his
children.
Of the 21 states that permit paddling,
Ohio is the only one where educators are required to honor
parental requests not to use corporal punishment.
In nine states, teachers are protected
from liability when they use corporal punishment, sometimes
even if they injure the child, and always regardless of
whether or not the parents requested that corporal punishment
not be used on their child.
Contrary to popular myth, failure to
spank might not guarantee an increase in crime. Recent studies
show that the vast majority of prison inmates were
spanked as children.
